New NP&S Lions Bus named in honour of Lion John Wilkinson

Lioness Chris Clements naming the new Peacehaven Lions Minibus in honour of Lion John Wilkinson with Lion President Alan looking on.

The Lions Club of Newhaven, Peacehaven and Seaford has just purchased a new Minibus which was officially named "Wilko's Waggon" in memory of former Lion President, John Wilkinson on 21 January. The Naming Ceremony took place in Newhaven and was performed by Lion John Wilkinson's partner, Lioness Chris Clements. John Wilkinson had not only held several offices in the local Lions Club but had been a dedicated Cabinet member of the SE District of Lions Clubs. He had been responsible for the collection and transport of surplus and used dental equipment to Third World countries which is another way in which Lions Clubs world wide try to help those most in need. Before his retirement John had been Head Teacher at Blatchington Court School in Seaford which was a Special School for Visually Impaired Children.

Attending the ceremony were the Mayor of Newhaven, Stephen Saunders and the Mayoress, Sharon Bewley, the Mayor of Seaford, Linda Wallraven and her consort Liz Holland and the Deputy Mayor Of Peacehaven, Elayne Merry. The Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Telscombe Cliffs sent their apologies. Many Lions and Friends of Lions were also present.

The Newhaven, Peacehaven and Seaford Lions Club has two Minibuses which are both specially adapted with tail - lifts to accommodate wheelchairs and make it easier to access for those who have difficulty in using steps. The Minibuses are used throughout the Seahaven area to transport groups of people such as the ESAB, Parkinson's Society, Stroke Club, Hard of Hearing and many other groups of people including Nursing Homes and Youth groups.
The Lions Motto is "WE SERVE" and this is one way in which the NPS Lions Club feels it can serve their community by transporting people to their meetings and to take them on outings. Both Minibuses are not in use every day so if any organisation or club is in need of transport especially any with a disability they should contact Lion Derek MacGarvie.

Rock Solid Youth Club and NP&S Lions

NP&S Lions were recently invited to inaugurate a new Lions national ‘Adopt a Youth Club' project. We have formed a partnership in Newhaven with the Rock Solid Youth Club as part of this project. The partnership is designed to offer support and encouragement, with fund raising opportunities and event experience, along with access to Tacade Teaching Resources.

In celebration of the adoption, Rock Solid Youth Club displayed a rich variety of musical talent recently hosting a Talent Show to out do the X-Factor, complete with all the familiar Judges. Lion President Bill Yoxall said: “We would like to thank everyone concerned for a thoroughly enjoyable evening's entertainment and look forward to working together in partnership to ensure that our young people benefit from the experience.”
