
The Brian Smith Award
The Newhaven, Peacehaven and Seaford LIONS Club is looking for nominations for the 8th annual Brian Smith Youth Award. This award was instituted in 1997 as a permanent memorial to the club’s Past President Brian Smith, because Brian had spent his life dedicated to helping young people. Prior to retiring from teaching Brian Smith had been Head Teacher at East Quinton School (now Cuckmere House School) for twelve years.
The Newhaven, Peacehaven & Seaford Lions Club is again looking for a boy or girl who has won through against the odds. For example, someone who has overcome a serious illness or someone who is exceptionally brave in spite of a disability or a young person who cares for a sick or disabled person.and still fulfils their other commitments. They do not have to have suffered a disability.
The young person nominated must live in the Newhaven, Peacehaven and Seaford area, and must be no less than 6 years of age and no more than 17 years of age on 31st May 2008.
The winner of the Brian Smith Youth Award will be presented with £250.00 and an inscribed silver cup. They will also have their name engraved on a Silver Memorial Cup that they will keep for one year before being passed onto next year’s winner. Additional prizes and awards may also be made at the discretion of the judges.
Last year the worthy Winner of the Brian Smith Youth Award was Louisa Willer who had been suffering with ME (Chronic Fatigue Syndrone for over three years. The Newhaven, Peacehaven and Seaford Lions Club presented awards to six other brave, young people
Nominations for this years Brian Smith Youth Award should be sent to Lion Derek MacGarvie, Youth Officer 1 Princes Close Seaford BN25 2EW by 31st March 2008.
